EUCAST for Antimicrobial Sensitivity Testing |
|
CLSI or EUCAST
"The choice is yours at Fort Richard"
CLSI (Clinical and Laboratory Standards Institute) has been the method of choice in NZ medical laboratories for Antimicrobial Sensitivity Testing (AST), since the mid-eighties and is likely to remain so for the time being.
EUCAST (European Committee on Antimicrobial Susceptibility Testing) is the new European guidelines for disc diffusion AST. Like CLSI, EUCAST is derived from the Kirby-Bauer method, variants of which are widely used, but it is calibrated to EUCAST MIC breakpoints.
The EUCAST disc diffusion method is based on two media, plain Mueller Hinton agar (MH) for non-fastidious organisms, and MH supplemented with 5% horse blood plus 20mg/l of NAD for Streptococci, Haemophilus and other fastidious organisms.
Together with our partners, Fort Richard laboratories can provide all EUCAST approved antibiotic discs plus unique 6-place disc dispensers, as well as all the recommended media formulations and additives, both dehydrated and prepared.
