The journey began many years ago, in 1974, when the founder of Fort Richard Laboratories Ltd, Maurice Clist, left the Middlemore Hospital (Auckland) micro lab and purchased McGaw Ethicals, a small media making division of a larger Pharmaceutical company, Biomed. Maurice saw the potential for laboratories to buy in ready-made media, instead of using their valuable technician’s time to make media themselves. Along with this small business came the Difco agency, which was also shared by 6 other distributors in New Zealand, and Fort Richard was born.

While prepared media is the key, over the years Fort Richard Laboratories established close relationships with leading international brands which trusted them agency rights for New Zealand and Australian markets.
