With much experience in supplying products used for the surveillance of HAI's (Healthcare Acquired Infections), we have lately recognized the need for products for prevention of HAi's, which cost the healthcare industry massive amounts of money each year.

UK -  "In 2007 50,000 over 65’s contracted C.difficile, Resulting in pain, anxiety and permanent disabilities. 8324 death certificates mentioned it specifically." The NHS have the target of reducing incidences by 30% by 2011. HAI's cost the NHS 1 £billion each year. 

 

USA -  A CDC report released in March 2009 estimates that "the annual direct hospital cost of treating HAI (Hospital Acquired infections) ranged from $28.4 billion to $45 billion, and that improving infection control could save roughly $6 billion to $32 billion.” 

 

Australia - "A stomach bug that has killed thousands in Canada, USA, Britain & Europe has been found in Australia. It is known as "the Quebec strain of Clostridium difficile’ & does not respond to the alcoholic hand cleanser now used throughout Australia’s hospitals. A full hand wash with disinfectant soap & water, isolation of patients & disinfecting wards is required to prevent it spreading. Australia is ill-prepared if there is a spread from the 3 patients confirmed in a Melbourne hospital. Only two laboratories in Australia - In Sydney & Perth – can positively identify this serious bug, but moves are afoot to enable microbiologists in each state to rapidly identify any outbreak.”
